Psoriasis and the Risk of Diabetes
Sunday January 18, 2009
an article in the British Journal of Dermatology (Br J Dermatol. 2008;159(6):1331-1337) looked at the rate of new-onset diabetes developing in patients with psoriasis. They took their data from the UK -based General Practice Research Database. The Risk of developing diabetes was higher in those patients with psoriasis. The severity of the psoriasis was what related to the risk of diabetes, not the BMI (body mass index) which would have related it to obesity instead (another common finding in diabetes). Psoriasis is being looked at more and more as a marker or risk factor for many other serious conditions.

yes psoriasis is really a very irritating disease, but life can be managed to live with this for complete details on psoriasis read here http://blog.wacky5.com/958/psoriasis.htm
This is amazing - and so true. I have had bits of psoriasis since age 13, however about 4 years ago it got a whole lot worse, large outbreaks all over my legs, knees, elbows. I’ve had it like that for four years now and in that time have put on a lot of weight and a year ago been diagnosed with insulin resistance (a precursor to diabetes) and high blood pressure.
Nothing seems to work on the psoriasis - there is no cure (I’ve tried UVB light therapy, all imaginable lotions and prescriptions, even the old Dithrisal or whatever it is) and it’s frustrating that it is dismissed as a cosmetic and not a truly medical issue.
